Unusually for the wine world, producer Weingut Malat, manages to successfully craft both traditional and contemporary wines. We import two of their more traditional Rieslings together with their beautifully contemporary Crazy Creatures Grüner Veltliner.
The brainchild of Michael Malat, Crazy Creatures’ first vintage was only 2013. The labels are an artists interpretation of Michael’s vision to attract and intrigue wine drinkers to try his wines. Four abstract creatures adorn the bottles; all are 100% Grüner Veltliner and the latest – Apis-Octopoda or bee and octopus – has just been released with the 2016 vintage.
The grapes for the wines are grown in the small Austrian village of Palt, in the wine-growing region of Kremstal. A favourite among sommeliers and wine enthusiasts alike Grüner Veltliner is the most important grape of Austria and is known for its spicy, herbal and fruity aromas and a crisp, fresh acidity.
