Our cool climate Elgin producer, Oak Valley, have certainly started 2017 on a high having been classified by South Africa’s go to online wine review publication: Top Wine SA.
They have been named in their Top 10 SA Chardonnay and Top 10 SA Pinot Noir lists as well as being ranked in the top 20 of their Top White Wine Cellars of South Africa.
So what does it all mean?
The Top Wine SA Classification is a review of South African wines taken over a decade from 2007 – 2016 for this year’s Classification. The top-rated wines are based on results over this time across 28 local and international tastings and competitions, all carried out by experts and critics (amongst others these include Decanter World Wine Awards, International Wine Challenge, International Wine & Spirit Challenge, Michelangelo, Platter’s SA Wine Guide and Veritas Awards). The wines have to be consistent year upon year and to receive this recognition is, as Brad Gold (Marketing Manager at Oak Valley), says ‘like Leonardo DiCaprio winning an Oscar.’
On top of this success, Oak Valley were also selected and named in the Top Wine SA Hall of Fame for their Chardonnay. This tribute is an amazing honour that we certainly agree with as it is given to wines that receive very good ratings for at least 8 vintages over the 10 years… we think Oak Valley have 10 out of 10!
As this has come at the start of the year we asked Brad how they plan to build on their success in 2017 and beyond. His response was intriguing and exciting and we cannot wait to find out more...
‘We have been planning on showcasing more of the special terroir that our property has to offer and with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, two varieties that showcase terroir like no other, there is no better varieties to focus on. Watch this space as Oak Valley’s secret cellar developments are approaching release dates….’
